<br />
We’re especially proud to have an association with The White Swan because while pubs are closing all over the UK, Nick and Tina Irish have re-opened what was one of the most popular watering holes in the area after quite a long struggle against a very small number of objectors.<br />
<br />
True, The Swan does have a recent chequered history, but long before that; for 300 years; it was a landmark on the East-West Brighton to Portsmouth coast road, and until very recently a popular pub and eating place. I think it’s safe to say that the pub suffered it’s lowest point when it was not run properly and allowed to deteriorate, probably giving rise to the lowering of it’s reputation.<br />
<br />
Nick and Tina have completely reversed the pub’s fortunes by successfully re-opening the pub and restaurant with a stylish, very warm and welcoming ambience.<br />
<br />
The reason we were involved is that between the period of applying for the licence to the pub, right through purchase and complete refit, The Swan had in place a ‘community’ or ‘newsletter’ type website to keep the local community fully informed of progress and to allay fears of any objectors to the pub re-opening. Excellent PR at the time. You can see the original website here<br />
http://TheWhiteSwanBosham.Food.officelive.com.<br />
<br />
When the Swan re-opened, it was clear to Nick and Tina that the community website had done it’s bit; and now they needed a more commercial approach, so as a local company, they approached us.<br />
We took a very short brief from Tina, and set to work. The result can be seen here www.thewhiteswanbosham.com<br />
<br />
The website is what we call a ‘brochure site’ in that it’s not trying to ‘sell’ anything, but serves as a 24/7 brochure. A site like this doesn’t need us to design in any specific consumer psychology to get the customer to take action as a lot of our SME sites do.<br />
<br />
Tina has full control over what goes on the website, and she is able to update the website herself quickly and easily 24/7 with our Content Management System, or by dropping us an e-mail. We will generally make any requested updates within 48 hours.<br />
<br />
A site like this STILL needs to be found in Google because The Swan is situated in a tourist area, and therefore wants to be found by people planning to visit the area. The Search Engine Optimisation for the site reflects this.<br />
<br />
All our sites are built and delivered with getting found on google uppermost in our minds, as well as delivering a visual experience that reflects the product and the target clientele.<br />
<br />

Congratulations! You’ve decided to set up a business, and whether it’s your first foray into the small business world or you’re a very experienced business person, you are probably smart enough to realise that your new business is going to need a website.<br />
<br />
Now how would you know that? Because you are aware;<br />
<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Your competitors can already be found on the web.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Your prospects will expect instant information.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>It shows you respect your prospect’s and customer’s need for information.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>That 80% of potential customers will look for you using search engines first and foremost.<br />
<br />
Now, in order to get this website, you might be thinking along the lines of<br />
<br />
“D’you know what, it’s easy to get a website, I know from the telly adverts I can build them for free, and I know someone who is quite techy about these things, and money is tight because I’m a start-up, I can’t really afford a website professional if I can get it for free”<br />
<br />
This, is what could quite possibly, be your first BIG MISTAKE<br />
<br />
That’s a BIG statement. Let me explain why I said it. First, here’s some stuff you might not know;<br />
<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>90% of Websites don’t WORK for the business.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>A website has up to 8 seconds to create the right image in a visitor’s mind. If it doesn’t, they leave, perhaps for ever.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Websites don’t get found by search engines unless they’ve been optimised correctly.<br />
<br />
Now I’m not going to pussy-foot around this subject. I have seen some websites that even the business owner believes are horrendous. That’s because either the business owner has built the site themselves or trusted it to a non-professional. Even with a smashing looking DIY website, it may not perform properly.<br />
<br />
<br />
I get at least one call a week from small business owners who 6 months on realised they made the same mistake. They realised that the web site visitors they expected just weren’t happening or that the website really doesn’t look good to their market or people are looking at the site, but they don’t DO anything except, well, leave. Yes, even if the website looks good.<br />
<br />
What those business owners had not realised, is that when they got a non-web, non-marketing person to do the job, THEY ONLY GOT 10% OF THE JOB DONE<br />
<br />
I don’t want you to make the same mistake. Many people think that any sort of web presence or a web site will magically bring instant demand for goods and services, and all you have to do is build it and they will come. Well it WON’T bring instant demand and visitors WON’T just come. Not unless you get the other 90% right.<br />
<br />
Even if you DO get visitors, having a website that doesn't engage your visitor immediately is just as bad as having a receptionist or a sales assistant chewing gum, scratching their backsides and ignoring your prospects when they walk in the door; or someone who answers the telephone in your business sounding disinterested and not able to answer the simplest of questions. A shoddy employee or an inadequate web 'presence' will BOTH drive YOUR business to your competitor. The difference is that an inadequate website will do it MUCH faster.<br />
<br />
SO, THERE’S THE PROBLEM – WHAT’S THE SOLUTION ?<br />
<br />
First, I run a web design company that knows about web marketing. When I design, write and build your site, I know how to get you found on Google. I know what people expect to be able to do when they reach your site. I know I only have 8 seconds to get their attention before they surf on, and I know how to design your site so that visitors stay a little longer and ‘do’ something; whether that's to pick up the phone and call you, or send you an e-mail, or even buy something from you. I even know how to make those customers ‘Customers For Life’. Think of the return on your affordable investment if THAT happens.<br />
<br />
Secondly, the price I quote is the price you pay and all of my experience in online marketing will be channelled into making your site get found, and it will then WORK FOR YOU as hard as a good employee would work for you.<br />
<br />
Third, I want to increase your visibility, your sales and your success. If I do, that makes you my customer for life too. Partners.<br />
<br />
Lastly, I’m only going to ask an affordable £250 to £600 to build you a ‘proper’ website.<br />

<br />
The problem is that most websites are designed with 'Fixed Design' which is not ideal as people with different screen sizes or media devices are denied a good browsing experience, or worse, the site is not accessible to them at all.<br />
<br />
So what’s the solution?<br />
<br />
Responsive Design. Together with our partners, we can now provide adaptive layouts which respond to their environment, totally regardless of the device or browser being used.<br />
<br />
So Responsive Design means complete device and browser compatibility<br />
<br />
This new development will allow your website to react to the device on which it’s being displayed!<br />
<br />
You see, responsive websites don't need to know what device you are using, because they adjust depending on the WIDTH of the browser. We know of one web design company that keeps and continually updates a database of over 20,000 mobile devices and uses it to tell their websites which device is being used so that it can adjust accordingly. This is not TRUE Responsive Design. True responsive design is totally future proof.<br />
<br />
You can be sure that a responsive website will display on devices or browsers that have not even been invented yet !<br />
<br />
Responsive websites are not just mobile versions .<br />
<br />
Responsive websites will also display on the smallest devices such as smartphones, but they are not merely mobile versions. Responsive sites will be displayed, WITHOUT the need for the user to zoom in and scroll left and right to access functionality as is common with most mobile sites.<br />
<br />
Take a look at this website on your smartphone, <a href="http://www.apple.com/">www.apple.com</a>. This is a perfect example of a mobile site into which you have to zoom in order to access the content. Once you have zoomed in, you also have to scroll around to further access the relevant content.<br />
<br />
Contrast that with this Responsive Website <a href="http://www.brightonfilmproductions.co.uk/">www.brightonfilmproductions.co.uk</a><br />
<br />
This is NOT a mobile version of the site, it has adjusted automatically to the screen width. All the relevant functionality and the main details have automatically adjusted. You do not have to zoom in or scroll around (just vertically). Responsive sites do this irrespective of whether your visitor is using an iphone, ipad, tablet, netbook, standard square PC monitor or any device with a browser.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.makeawebsitemobile.co.uk/">Take a look at the Demo Video here</a><br />
<br />
The great thing is that if you have just spent thousands on your company website and design and it's NOT responsive, our partners can MAKE your existing website responsive. Responsive Design doesn't have to happen from scratch.<br />
<br />
You can find out if your website is responsive, and at the same time see what your visitors see on devices of differing widths (ipad, tablets etc) by opening up your website in any browser and resizing the window by dragging in the right hand side. Look what happens, the browser probably chops off the right hand side of the website and there's probably a scroll bar at the bottom. Also try it out with <a href="http://www.apple.com/">www.apple.com</a> and you'll see the same effect.<br />
<br />
Now do the same with <a href="http://www.brightonfilmproductions.co.uk/">www.brightonfilmproductions.co.uk</a>. No horizontal scroll bar, and the content repositions and adjusts to fit the browser width. That's True Responsive Design.<br />

This one is rapidly gaining the monicker 'Fresh'. It alludes to the subtle change that Google will be adding a bit more weight to your timestamp. Effectively they'll be looking for sites that are kept 'fresh'. So if you have a way to update your website, make sure you use it regularly, you're going to have to compete harder with competitors that have full time staffers updating their sites. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">So what can you do to keep Google happy ? What are you, the website owner able to do to try and ensure that you have a decent shot at beating your competitors in Google. It’s all about ‘new ‘ content. </span><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Up to date quality content was always ‘King’, but this little tweak has made it even more essential.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">So if the idea is to create up to date content on your website how do you go about this ?<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Here are 3 ways you can make sure Google sees your site being updated regularly. You can apply anyone or a mix of all three to your site if it’s applicable.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: -18pt;"><span style="font-family: Symbol;">·<span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman';"> </span></span><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Add a news page<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: -18pt;"><span style="font-family: Symbol;">·<span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman';"> </span></span><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Add a Blog <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: -18pt;"><span style="font-family: Symbol;">·<span style="font: normal normal normal 7pt/normal 'Times New Roman';"> </span></span><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Add a Forum<o:p></o:p></span></div><div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;">The benefits of all the above are web traffic, links, mindshare, branding and increased rankings in Google. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;">When writing News, make sure you have targeted your audience, in your case this would ordinarily be your customers. News articles can be news about the company or about your industry. Keep it interesting, don’t just post something for the sake of it.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;">Blogs are slightly different in that you can include everything you might include in a News page, but you can also add ‘How To’ content or ‘Advice’. For example if your site is about your restaurant, you might blog about events, special offers (news) or you may have an article on ‘How to choose the best wine’. If used properly, using Blogs can also establish you as an ‘Expert’ in your field. If you sell Health Products for example, you can post useful blogs on the subject. This applies in ANY industry, just use your imagination.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;">Forums are a bit more specialised and are used by large companies or those with a large customer base. Use this option with caution. They are a way of having a two way conversation with your customer base. Customers can post questions, concerns or praise ; and the company staff or designated individuals can respond. They can therefore be a useful customer support tool, but they do require quite a bit of human resource overhead<o:p></o:p></span></div><div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">In addition, you should find out, if you don’t already know, which keywords your webmaster is targeting within the site. When you post to the News Pages, Blogs or Forum; you can enhance your chances of beating your competitors by using keyword rich content.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

Truth is, making your website pay its way is not quite as simple as your website designer might have led you to believe.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #17365d; font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><span lang="EN-US" style="color: #17365d; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;"><br />

Most website designers are basically a new breed of graphic designer and they are NOT marketing experts. That’s why most websites don’t make any money. <br />

Ensure your Home Page passes the 8-second test. <o:p></o:p></span></span></h1></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #17365d; font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><span lang="EN-US" style="color: #17365d; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">Research shows that you have just 8 seconds to grab your website visitors' interest. They don't call it “web-surfing” for nothing: if you don't grab your visitor’s attention and break this pattern of behaviour, then they will hit your site, stay for a few seconds... and then they're gone. Usually forever.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #17365d; font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><span lang="EN-US" style="color: #17365d; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">So when they do hit your home-page, you need to present them with a clear and pressing reason to stay. And that means a headline. Don't let your website designer or your graphic designer sell you on the idea of logos, pretty pictures and whitespace ; that's just a "brochure website". Trust me, they don’t work. No one cares about your logo, the picture of the anonymous businessman in a suit at the top of the page, or empty space devoid of any meaning.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #17365d; font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><span lang="EN-US" style="color: #17365d; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">A headline is text, usually black, bold, and big which gives your visitor a big, exciting and compelling promise that if he or she continues reading, you're going to give them some significant reward for doing so. In other words, you’re going to have one of the few websites that keeps people for more than 8 seconds.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #17365d; font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><span lang="EN-US" style="color: #17365d; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">So think of a great headline for your home page, one which really sums up the "big promise" your business makes and encapsulates the overriding reason why people would want to do business with you and not your competitors.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div><div style="background: #4F81BD; border: solid #4F81BD 3.0pt; mso-background-themecolor: accent1; mso-border-themecolor: accent1; mso-element: para-border-div; padding: 0cm 0cm 0cm 0cm;"><h1><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #17365d; font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><span lang="EN-US">2. Your home page should follow on from your headline and tell your "story". It's got to be interesting enough to keep them riveted to the page long enough to get them over that 8-second "hump". <o:p></o:p></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #17365d; font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><b><span lang="EN-US" style="color: #17365d; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">AIDA stands for Attention, Interest, Desire, Action</span></b><span lang="EN-US" style="color: #17365d; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">, and all of your copy, whether it’s a letter, brochure, email, or your home page should follow this simple formula:<o:p></o:p></span></span></div><ul type="disc"><li class="MsoNormal" style="color: #17365d; line-height: normal; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-themecolor: text2; mso-themeshade: 191; tab-stops: list 36.0pt;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #17365d; font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">You get <b>their Attention</b> with a strong, compelling headline offering them a clear benefit for reading further.<br />

<o:p></o:p></span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="color: #17365d; line-height: normal; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-themecolor: text2; mso-themeshade: 191; tab-stops: list 36.0pt;"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">You then fan the flames of <b>their Desire</b> by ‘twisting the knife’ and really showing them how you can ease the pain and make their lives better. <br />

On your home page, that will normally involve people giving you their name and email address in exchange for a Free report or video etc. <br />
Every single page on your website should have a single purpose to justify its existence, and should therefore follow the AIDA formula.<br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As I write this, billions and billions are being wiped off the wealth of this country. It looks likely that the double dip recession predicted 2 years ago , and possibly a depression, is around the corner.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">What will that mean for your business ? Well don't PANIC for a start. It's an ideal opportunity to grow YOUR business while everyone else is flapping around.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">But, it means that you have to get good at marketing and do what the others <strong>aren't</strong>doing to survive.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The most important thing to remember is that when people have less to spend, it might be tempting for a business to become the <strong>CHEAPEST</strong>around, enter a pricing war. In actual fact, what people or businesses with less money to spend want is <strong>BEST VALUE</strong> for that money. They want to see you offering more value. You gotta be better than the next guy, <strong>NOT CHEAPER</strong></span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-indent: 15px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Of course, if you are offering a product or service that is exactly the same as what your competition is offering, then it is highly likely they will go and do business with who has the lowest price.</span></div><div style="line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-indent: 15px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> However...</span></div><div style="line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-indent: 15px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">If you concentrate on separating yourself from the competition by establishing yourself as the only viable solution, then... your prospective customers and clients will have but one option... YOU!</strong></span></div><div style="line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-indent: 15px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So how can you do this?</span></div><div style="line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-indent: 15px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well there is an almost infinite number of ways you can make yourself stand out from your crowd and attract an unlimited amount of customers and clients; however, the easiest and most important thing you should do is to <strong style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">position yourself as the expert in your industry and build a solid relationship with your prospects</strong>.</span></div><div style="line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-indent: 15px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And the easiest way to do this is by specialising yourself in a niche within your industry, thus making yourself incomparable with anyone else.</span></div><div style="line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-indent: 15px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So no matter what business <strong style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">YOU</strong> are in, get thinking of ways you can <strong style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">stand out from the crowd</strong> to make yourself the only viable solution to your prospects, and remember...</span></div><div style="line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-indent: 15px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">... treat your current customers and clients with the utmost respect and start to over-deliver to them, because not only is it the right thing to do...</strong></span></div><div style="line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-indent: 15px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">... your current customers are your best and cheapest form of advertising!</span></div><div style="line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-indent: 15px;"><br />

That's at least twice this year and it makes me feel responsible for not convincing a prospect I have a part to play in growing a business.<br />
<br />
See, I'm so passionate about what I do, and how what I do can really help businesses, that if I spend time with a prospect and yet at the end of it I've failed to convince that prospect that they really must buy what I have to offer (I offer a Return On Investment); then I feel as though I've let that customer down.<br />
<br />
My websites and services are (pretty much) more affordable than many other web agencies, and yet even so, there are prospects who simply go ahead and cut out website investment.<br />
<br />
Usually, when this happens, I visit any website that they may have sourced (usually via DIY or by using a non- professional) and I analyse the site.<br />
<br />
Generally what I find is something like this..<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fjoKDeLRJhA/TjZo2e7V7NI/AAAAAAAAAJI/ySK5CoVjyZM/s1600/new_website_ibp_2.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fjoKDeLRJhA/TjZo2e7V7NI/AAAAAAAAAJI/ySK5CoVjyZM/s400/new_website_ibp_2.gif" width="400" /></a></div><br />
In case you can't read the image, it says that the web page analysed meets 0% of the requirements for a Page 1 appearance on Google. If someone spends 3 months (on and off) creating a website with that profile; that's a BIG OUCH !! Trouble is, most people who DIY a website would have no idea that their web presence is so ineffective.<br />
<br />
Incidentally in the case above, that particular search phrase was searched for 1000 times a day in the UK in the last 12 months (30000 times a month or 360,000 times a year) . That's a big audience these guys are now missing. It will take real investment to claw that potential audience in. Statistics say that, in this instance, there could be the potential to create a mailing list of 1,800 ring fenced prospects to relate to<br />
<br />
And we don't just do websites here. We are a website agency that 'knows' about web surfing behaviour, and we work with the biggest marketing experts in the UK and US to ensure that once your site IS found; then those visitors will drop into your sales funnel. That's a rare combination of techy and savvy marketeer.<br />
<br />
At least once a month I get enquiries from businesses that didn't realise the value of website investment with a professional,. They phone up asking just how they can make their website 'work' for the business as a lead generation tool, instead of just sitting there watching visitors waft in and out again without making any contact. Sometimes we can work with the website they have, sometimes we can't; then they rue their misunderstanding of the technicalities and the time they have wasted, all for the sake, usually, of a couple of hundred pounds.<br />
<br />
If you hear of anyone who is starting a business, and yet thinks they can build a working website, please, please , please let them know it's much more than just building a presence on the web; that's easy. Making the site work is the other 90% and for that they need a professional marketer. Use the analogy of an iceberg, because building a simple web presence yourself really IS only the tip of the iceberg !<br />
<br />
You'll be doing them a favour and stop them wasting time on building a site that doesn't give a ROI.<br />

Here is a secret tip to increasing the value of every sale, without increasing your prices.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;">Let's say you have two products to sell. Doesn't matter what they are, just that one is a lower value than the other.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;">Let's say you run a beauty spa. You might have two products like this;</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><strong>1. Hand and Foot Massage: £30</strong></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><strong>2. <strong>Hand and Foot Massage and </strong>Aromatherapy Massage : £100</strong></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;">So you give your clients two choices, and your sales, research shows, says you'll get a fairly consistent split, let's say for example that you are getting a</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><strong>50/50 split.</strong></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;">If you introduce ANOTHER third choice in the middle, and make it the same or very closely priced to your second item; research shows that something quite amazing happens.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;">1. Hand and Foot Massage: £30</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><strong>3. Aromatherapy Massage: £100</strong></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;">2. Hand and Foot Massage and Aromatherapy Massage : £100</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;">Now, no one ever buys the 'Odd Man Out' in the middle, and research shows that the introduction of this 'Odd Man Out'</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><strong>massively polarises the buying pattern in favour of the highest price product</strong></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;">which previously was split down the middle with your lower priced product. The theory is that most buyers now focus on the choice between the second and third offerings and dismiss the first altogether. You have miraculously highlighted the VALUE of the higher priced product.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><strong>You may get a 30/70 split or even better in favour of the higher priced item.</strong></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"> Work out for yourself what that is going to do to your bottom line. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;">With a little imagination, you can apply this to any business, product or service.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3e506d; font-size: 13px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; line-height: 18px;">HW Marketing UK are the <a href="http://www.hwmarketing.co.uk/">Affordable Website Design</a> Company of choice for Small or Startup Businesses in the area. <span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;"><br />
</span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">You don’t write, you don’t phone... so they drift off into another’s arms... and take your profits along with them.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;"><br />
</span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">If you are serious about your business, it is ESSENTIAL that you implement a strategy for keeping your customers and clients so that they continue spending money with you year in, year out.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;"><br />
</span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">Nowadays, we have an almost ‘Too Good To Be True’ method of keeping in touch with our best clients. It’s called E-MAIL.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;"><br />
</span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">If before the age of the internet you’d offered a system to a business in which they could keep in touch with their clients instantly (or prospects for that matter), get instant feedback, instant action and all of this ABSOLUTELY FREE; then you’d have been laughed off the premises. <o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Dm_HZYBqj08/TgyBZOrWX4I/AAAAAAAAAIY/Q8aPOsMie30/s1600/sshot-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Dm_HZYBqj08/TgyBZOrWX4I/AAAAAAAAAIY/Q8aPOsMie30/s200/sshot-1.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">EMAIL allows you to do this. Used properly, it’s a goldmine.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;"><br />
</span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">You can reach all of your existing customers, and keep your services or products in the forefront of their minds all year round. Yes, people are fed up with ‘spam’; but they are not fed up with interesting e-mails from people or businesses with which they have a relationship.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">Keep it simple, don’t make a sales pitch, just inform, give useful interesting information, point them at your website for more information. Then Sign Off.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;"><br />
</span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">Do it just once a week at the most. <o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;"><br />
</span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">At some point that customer is going to make a decision to buy that service or product again. If you’ve been communicating with them and maintained the relationship, where do you think they are going to go; probably even regardless of price ?<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;"><br />
</span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">Remember: your business has already ‘paid’ to get that customer. One way or another you ‘buy’ each new customer, whether with advertising, trade shows, direct mail, telephone calls etc. <o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">And everyone you let leave, means you’ve got to spend money to replace them. <o:p></o:p></span><br />

<br />
Water quality from private supplies is highly variable and when poor, can cause significant health problems.Private or mains supply, Ecoteric Systems water quality testing service, to laboratory standards, will provide you with peace of mind, trust and confidence.<br />
<br />
The most important thing you can do is to know your supply and look after it.<br />
<br />
An Ecoteric Systems water testing service will provide you with the information you need from the outset to start this process.<br />
<br />
If you or your visitors, or your customers (if you manufacture foodstuffs using a private supply) are using a contaminated supply, there may be health and legal issues to overcome.<br />
<br />
Ecoteric Systems bespoke water testing service examines all indicators of how 'healthy' your water supply is, including tests for water diseases, so you can gain confidence or take measures to improve your water quality.<br />

</div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Hello, I'm Neil -Holley-Williams</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I founded <a href="http://www.hwmarketing.co.uk/">HW Marketing UK</a> at the height of the recession in 2009. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The reason I did was to provide <a href="http://www.hwmarketing.co.uk/how-much">affordable websites</a> for small businesses to give them the edge in the marketplace.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I achieve this by being different. I don’t just design and build websites, I design and build websites that work for your business rather than just giving your business a ‘web presence’.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Anybody can build you a web presence, you can build yourself a web presence, the bloke next door can build you a web presence. There are enough cheap and even free ways you can build a website and get a web presence, but the harsh truth is that building the site is not enough. There are hundreds of things you must take into account to make that site work for you and grow your business.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">That’s why we are different. We are a web design company that knows about web marketing. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Not many do. They are technicians, and they wallow in their techy world and design sites that may look great, but do absolutely ZERO for your company. Would you like your website to have some tech wizardry in it that was only included because the coder found a widget on the web and wanted to try it out ? I should hope not. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">We don't do that. <a href="http://www.hwmarketing.co.uk/#/how-we-work/4547375452">We work with you (it's your site)</a> and we know how to get you found on Google, we know what people expect to be able to do when they reach your site, we know we only have 8 seconds to get their attention before they surf on, and we know how to design your site so that visitors stay a little longer and ‘do’ something. Whether that is to pick up the phone and call you, or send you an e-mail, or even buy something from you. We do websites that work, not just sit there looking pretty.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.hwmarketing.co.uk/#/how-much/4545763070">The price we quote is the price you pay</a> and all of my experience in online marketing will be channelled into making your site get found, and to make sure it will work for you increasing your visibility, sales and success.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In addition, every customer is added to my network of contacts and you will receive not only a free newsletter every month (or more regularly) giving you marketing tips that you can employ in your own business at very little or no cost; but you will also be advertised in that newsletter and so will be seen by all my contacts.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I hope you decide to join us and make your business a success </span><br />

Your prospects may not yet have made that 'decision to buy', so any hard sell is going to go down like the proverbial lead balloon. Rather than try to sell to your customers immediately, shift your thinking 180 degrees.<br />
<br />
Begin the relationship by 'giving' first.<br />
<br />
The people that arrive at your website or make an enquiry have been looking for what it is that you can provide, whether that is a service or a product. Just 1 minute before landing on your site, or phoning you up they didn't even know you existed. They don't know you and may not want to make the commitment of buying something (or contacting via the website) at this point; some of them want to think about what it is you offer, and they still might want to keep surfing or looking around. They haven't yet made the 'Decision To Buy'.<br />
<br />
What you should do at this point is GIVE your visitor something that is of value to them.<br />
<br />
Effectively, by doing this you are saying "You don't know me but I have a great product/service for you and I'm so confident about that product that I don't want your money yet. I want to give you something that will provide value to you. I'm willing to do this and if you accept this from me, it's my hope that you and I will have a long term relationship".<br />
<br />
Give prospects something in exchange for their basic contact details.<br />
<br />
What types of things could you offer ?<br />
<br />
On a website you could offer a free report or article. These are excellent because you produce them just once and then send a copy electronically by e-mail or let visitors download it.<br />
<br />
If you were a landscaper for example, you could offer a report on the types of driveway available and how to choose the best type of driveway for your needs.<br />
<br />
If you sell self-catering holidays in French Gites, but you don't sell the travel, you could provide a free report on how to get the best priced tickets on Ferries and Airlines.<br />
<br />
If you're selling a service, perhaps you could give a free 30 min consultation, and if you sell physical products, it doesn't take much imagination to think of something you could send (of course you would need an address to do this) or give to your prospect if they are physically with you.<br />
<br />
Going back to the landscaper, one company I know allows visitors to access free 'garden planner software ' online in exchange for name and e-mail address. <br />
<br />
It is of course vitally important that you collect the visitor's contact details, no matter how brief. Online, you can do this 24/7 with contact forms or by using an 'autoresponder' which will automatically send your gift by e-mail. You can google 'autoresponder ' to find out more about it, but essentially it's a widget that your webmaster can incorporate which 'automatically responds' to the prospect entering their details, and sends an e-mail with an attachment or a 'link' to the gift<br />
<br />
The idea is that you will use the 'permission' you have been given to contact the visitor again to maintain the relationship.<br />
<br />
Your visitors will be surprised that you are offering something free when your competitors are trying to get money out of them.<br />
<br />
However, when you next use your prospect's details to contact them, keep the relationship going. Don't try to sell immediately. <br />
<br />
You might follow up with a second e-mail that says "We recently sent you a report on the 5 best barbecues, we'd now like to give you some of our favourite barbecue recipes, please visit our site on {site page} and download your free recipes" or "Visit our retail outlet at {} and collect your free recipes"<br />
<br />
Now the person who downloaded the report on barbecues in the first instance, may not have bought a barbecue from you or anyone else yet, but they are certainly thinking about it because they came to your site or contacted you in the first place. <br />
<br />
Now at some point, that prospect will make a decision to buy; and when he does, which barbecue seller is going to be at the forefront of his mind?</span></h2><h2><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">Take our landscaper. When his prospects have finished playing with his 'garden planner software', who are they going to call to do the job ?</span></h2><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JrT2hh3JrBI/TcJ80odid6I/AAAAAAAAAF4/E9wXHSdKvMQ/s1600/Influence_cialdini.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JrT2hh3JrBI/TcJ80odid6I/AAAAAAAAAF4/E9wXHSdKvMQ/s200/Influence_cialdini.jpg" width="131" /></a></div><h2><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">This is psychology and it works. It creates the feeling in your prospects that they are indebted to you<br />
<br />
Why does that work?<br />
<br />
Here is an extract from <i>'Influence. The Psychology of Persuasion' by Bob Cialdini</i>. Available from Amazon - <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/006124189X/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=hwmar-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=006124189X">RIGHT HERE</a>. Influence, the classic book on persuasion, explains the psychology of why people say yes and how to apply these understandings. Perfect for people in all walks of life, these principles will move you toward profound personal change <br />
<br />
"A few years ago, a university professor tried a little experiment. He sent Christmas cards to a sample of perfect strangers. Although he expected some reaction, the response he received was amazing - Christmas cards came pouring back from the people who had never met nor even heard of him. …. While small in scope, this study nicely shows the action of one of the most potent of the weapons of influence - the rule of reciprocation…….this rule says that we should repay .. …what another person has provided us"<br />
<br />
That means as social creatures we feel a slight obligation to the future repayment.<br />
<br />
In essence by starting the relationship you are doing much more than any of your competitors are doing, and by providing you with their contact details, your prospects have given you permission to communicate with them regularly and to offer useful value added information on a regular basis, in order to generate future leads.<br />
<br />
By using this psychology you can Ring Fence in your prospects and ensure it is more likely that you are the person or company which the buyer will contact once that all important 'decision to buy' stage has been reached.<br />
<br />
You can buy Cialdini's 'Influence. The Psychology of Persuasion' right <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/006124189X/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=hwmar-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=006124189X">here</a> </span></h2></div><div style="mso-element: footnote-list;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br clear="all" /> </span><br />

</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In other words, if your website doesn’t do something WITHIN 8 SECONDS to keep them there, at least 50% of them will leave. <span style="color: red; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">There was an old metaphor doing the rounds when the web first started, and sadly it’s how a lot of businesses still view their websites. “The internet is like a huge gigantic shopping centre and your website is a shop. Everybody gets to come and browse your shop”. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It’s more accurate if we imagine that the people in this mall are walking at 60mph and they are looking for something very specific, and they only have 15 minutes to find it. They are only ever going to go into the places that obviously provide those services or goods, and if the shop looks as though it doesn’t, or they wouldn’t feel comfortable in that shop, they aren’t stopping, let alone coming inside.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Think about how you use the web. You SURF THE WEB. Think about the phrase ‘surf the web’. It means you go from one site to the next, to the next, to the next. You do it because you can, and you don’t stop until something interests you or catches your eye. You now know that even when you do stop, there is a 50% chance you will probably leave in 8 seconds if it doesn’t quickly become apparent that it has what you’re looking for.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">That’s the challenge you and I face.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-size: 14pt; line-height: 115%;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">WE HAVE TO GET VISITORS TO <b>STOP SURFING</b> AND INTERACT WITH US<o:p></o:p></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: black;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">How do we do this? If you don’t have a headline in the form of words, then your ‘headline’ is whatever your visitor first sees when they arrive at your page. It might be a logo, a graphic, a picture or a piece of blank screen, or worse a lame piece of text like ‘Welcome’, or ‘We have been in existence since 1982’. Be honest with yourself and ask, would this stop ME surfing ? If you have nothing to grab the visitor’s attention, then they’ll be gone.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Remember that the headline is the first thing that’s going to grab me, and interest me; and it needs to be strong enough to stop me surfing.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Just making this one small change will make a big difference for you. <br />
That's when Google made 'Local' intentions clear with the release of 'Google Places'. Google Places is where you can enter the details of your business and help to hardwire your website to Google, and gain a few brownie points from them (that's a 'good' thing)<br />
<br />
With Google Places you will also have a better chance of showing up in the Search Results Pages when a searcher is looking for a specific service or product in a specific area, and you will also start to appear in Google Maps which will show your business as a 'pin' on a local map</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;"><span lang="EN-US"> <br />
50 million businesses have created their Google Places profiles. If you haven’t yet, you're behind.<br />
<br />
Head over there (link below) and add your business, and make sure you complete all the sections to get a profile completion percentage of 100%. Yes I know it's a pain, but Google will favour those with 100%. <br />
<br />
If you service areas outside of your immediate business address, make sure you list those too.<br />
<br />
You'll need a Google account. If you don't have a Google account yet, then sign up for one. Follow this link, it’s FREE.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://google.co.uk/places">CLAIM YOUR GOOGLE PLACE </a><br />

Your Brother’s lad is also pretty good with techie stuff, so give the job to him; or a friend who’s in IT. Why not ? Building a website is easy. No it’s not. Done through ignorance, it’s a car without an engine. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 15.75pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><br />

I’ve met small businesses who have been really smug about it too. “No thanks, what would we need you for, we can fix it ourselves”. Might as well fix your own car instead of using a mechanic or turn the gas board away when there’s a leak outside your house.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 15.75pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11.5pt;">Your business can have the prettiest, most stunning website on the web; but if it doesn’t get visitors, or if it does, but doesn’t convey the right image in less than 8 seconds or get the visitor to take action, it’s worth exactly zilch to your business, and you might as well not have the website at all. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 15.75pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11.5pt;">Website designers are professionals. Building a website is like building a house. You need the skills of an architect, an electrician, a plumber, a carpenter, a heating engineer, a roofer, a builder, a decorator, a plaster, a tiler, etc, etc ,etc.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 15.75pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11.5pt;">You can build a house with just a builder and a roofer, but when the fantastic outside shell is up, looking great; it’s actually a completely useless house. No heating , no plumbing, no electricity, no inside walls finished off, etc, etc, etc<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 15.75pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11.5pt;">It’s not about just throwing up a superficial entity that looks good. Your website is an intrinsic part of your business and needs serious thought because it actually has to work for your business.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 15.75pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11.5pt;">An analogy might be to design a billboard advert for sand, and then place it in the Sahara Desert. Wrong place, wrong target, no business<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 15.75pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11.5pt;">Also, one of the easiest ways to lose a potential customer is a mediocre website. What does it actually mean to lose a potential customer?<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 15.75pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11.5pt;">If you fail to grab the interest and trust of a potential customer, they will not think about exchanging their hard-earned money or call you to ask about your goods or services. If your website continually turns people off your product, the amount of initial sales lost will begin to accumulate. Good websites convert visitors into contacts and customers, not just because they look good, but because they carry the right message to the right people in the right way. Mediocre websites simply cause the visitor to hit the back button and never return. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 15.75pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11.5pt;">Professional designers understand the form and function of the web and can implement visual, copywriting and other marketing strategies to increase conversions/sales. A website that fails to convert traffic into eventual sales serves no purpose.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 15.75pt; margin-bottom: 7.5pt; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11.5pt;">If a potential customer has a problem they need solved, they are going to pay someone to solve it. Your website is your first impression, and if the impression is unimpressive or uninspiring, and you fail to show how you will solve that problem, in less than 8 seconds, potential customers will take their money elsewhere. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 15.75pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11.5pt;">Every business action taken has a cost. Simply stated, each moment you spend doing something could be spent doing something else. If you are a baker, you should spend your time baking. If you are a painter, you should spend your time painting. If you are an accountant, you should spend your time accounting. These painstakingly obvious truths stem from the economic idea of <span style="border-bottom-color: windowtext; border-bottom-style: none; border-bottom-width: 1pt; border-left-color: windowtext; border-left-style: none; border-left-width: 1pt; border-right-color: windowtext; border-right-style: none; border-right-width: 1pt; border-top-color: windowtext; border-top-style: none; border-top-width: 1pt; padding-bottom: 0cm; padding-left: 0cm; padding-right: 0cm; padding-top: 0cm;">comparative advantage</span>, or the idea that better products and services are created when individuals focus on their strong points. The web design process requires a considerable amount of time to execute correctly. Extensive testing, brainstorming, design, and development goes into the creation of effective websites. An accountant who makes a website, in most cases, simply becomes an accountant behind schedule with only an ineffective website to show for that lost time. When you or anybody else undertakes the creation of a website without extensive experience, your business suffers.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 15.75pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 15.75pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11.5pt;">Sub-par websites, ranging from do-it-yourself projects to premium templates, all have one major similarity: their inability to fully capture the image of a business. One of the <span style="border-bottom-color: windowtext; border-bottom-style: none; border-bottom-width: 1pt; border-left-color: windowtext; border-left-style: none; border-left-width: 1pt; border-right-color: windowtext; border-right-style: none; border-right-width: 1pt; border-top-color: windowtext; border-top-style: none; border-top-width: 1pt; padding-bottom: 0cm; padding-left: 0cm; padding-right: 0cm; padding-top: 0cm;">5 Principles of Web Marketing</span> is knowing your customers and catering to their wants. A member of an exclusive country club wants to <i><span style="border-bottom-color: windowtext; border-bottom-style: none; border-bottom-width: 1pt; border-left-color: windowtext; border-left-style: none; border-left-width: 1pt; border-right-color: windowtext; border-right-style: none; border-right-width: 1pt; border-top-color: windowtext; border-top-style: none; border-top-width: 1pt; padding-bottom: 0cm; padding-left: 0cm; padding-right: 0cm; padding-top: 0cm;">feel</span></i> exclusive when he visits a website. A young child wants to <i><span style="border-bottom-color: windowtext; border-bottom-style: none; border-bottom-width: 1pt; border-left-color: windowtext; border-left-style: none; border-left-width: 1pt; border-right-color: windowtext; border-right-style: none; border-right-width: 1pt; border-top-color: windowtext; border-top-style: none; border-top-width: 1pt; padding-bottom: 0cm; padding-left: 0cm; padding-right: 0cm; padding-top: 0cm;">feel</span></i> happy when they visit <span style="border-bottom-color: windowtext; border-bottom-style: none; border-bottom-width: 1pt; border-left-color: windowtext; border-left-style: none; border-left-width: 1pt; border-right-color: windowtext; border-right-style: none; border-right-width: 1pt; border-top-color: windowtext; border-top-style: none; border-top-width: 1pt; color: windowtext; padding-bottom: 0cm; padding-left: 0cm; padding-right: 0cm; padding-top: 0cm;">Nick Jr.</span> online with their parents. A young adult wants to <i><span style="border-bottom-color: windowtext; border-bottom-style: none; border-bottom-width: 1pt; border-left-color: windowtext; border-left-style: none; border-left-width: 1pt; border-right-color: windowtext; border-right-style: none; border-right-width: 1pt; border-top-color: windowtext; border-top-style: none; border-top-width: 1pt; padding-bottom: 0cm; padding-left: 0cm; padding-right: 0cm; padding-top: 0cm;">feel</span></i> cool and relaxed when on <span style="border-bottom-color: windowtext; border-bottom-style: none; border-bottom-width: 1pt; border-left-color: windowtext; border-left-style: none; border-left-width: 1pt; border-right-color: windowtext; border-right-style: none; border-right-width: 1pt; border-top-color: windowtext; border-top-style: none; border-top-width: 1pt; color: windowtext; padding-bottom: 0cm; padding-left: 0cm; padding-right: 0cm; padding-top: 0cm;">Facebook</span>. All these sites give their respective target audiences exactly what they want and expect. Crafting a design that encompasses the wants and expectations of your target audience takes immense skill, research, and experience. When customer expectations are satisfied, customer trust grows, leading to sales. However, when customer expectations are not met and that critical element of trust crumbles, customers become confused.<br />
<br />
Once a customer is confused and unable to render the business image in their minds and feel comfortable with it, they will take their business elsewhere.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 15.75pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><br />

<div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Most businesses think that doubling your turnover means having to double your customer numbers, but if you take each one of the 3 ways above, and start to apply some numbers; you get very interesting results.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">What these results mean is that you can concentrate on smaller targets in each of the areas above, or even use a phased approach, improving one area after the other, to increase your turnover much more than you thought easily possible.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><br />
</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Let’s take a hypothetical business. Just chat, don’t sell, just ask questions. You will probably make some more immediate sales, but from the answers you get, you may get some great clues as to how to expand your product and services base. Then when you’ve found out how to source the product or service; you have a willing qualified lead ready to make a purchase. Many businesses will have a customer base in which maybe only 20% of that customer base provides 80% of the income. Don’t neglect these customers. Go out and meet them, and do the same, just ask questions, find out what they want. Most businesses will neglect these customers or not give them the attention they deserve, but it doesn’t cost anything except TIME to move your focus to maintaining and building these relationships. It may not seem like marketing, but marketing is not ALL about getting new customers; it’s about keeping the relationship with your existing customers so that they return to you to buy every time.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span lang="EN-US"><br />
</span></b></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;"><span lang="EN-US"></span><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span lang="EN-US">2.</span></b>UPSELL</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;"><span lang="EN-US">This means selling something else to customers at the moment that they buy from you. You’ve probably experienced this if you’ve ever been asked to ‘go large’ at a fast food outlet, or in the convenience store where items are labeled ‘Three for the price of two’. Those are both examples of upsell. The reason why a business or a retailer will try to ‘increase the value of your transaction’ by ‘upselling’, is that they realize that it may have cost them quite a lot to get you to the point of buying, and at that point of purchase, it will cost them NOTHING to try to sell you something else. This is known as a ‘pure profit sale’; because the costs are borne by the first sale, the upsell is ‘pure profit’. If just 20% of your customers allow you to upsell, that’s an additional pot of cash that you have brought into the business for absolutely NO MARKETING COST.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;"><span lang="EN-US"><br />

2) Send new clients a thank you card with a promotion for one of your other services.<br />
3) Put a sign up in your shop or office announcing a new offering or special deal. Just make sure it doesn’t get lost in the clutter, and train your staff to point it out.<br />
4) Send targeted follow-up emails to customers offering them a related product or service (you can do this automatically with a good email autoresponder , we’ll cover this another time)).<br />
5) On your Website, offer an added discount for buying two products or services together. Amazon does a great job of this by always offering a second book on the same subject below your main selection.<br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"></span>The more votes you get, the more Google likes you. Simple. Not quite. Google also cares where these ‘votes’ are coming from. If you have a friend that is a Plumber and you link to him from your High End Audio Visual Retailers; Google is not stupid, and it’s not only going to ignore it as irrelevant; BUT, it may even knock a teensy weensy bit off your ranking.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Also, don’t use Automatic Link Building Farms. Google knows if you have used one. They can smell it a mile off; and they will DEFINITELY mark you down for that one. If it was that easy, we’d all have pages and pages of website links and no useful information or content; and it’s the sites with useful information and content AND ‘votes’ for that information and content that gets Google excited.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><br />

What I mean by that is that for example is that if you have a website that is say a Hairdressers and your business friend the Tanning Booth Shop links to your site; from what I’ve said, that’s a good relevant vote for your site, but the catch is that your friend is going to want you to link back in return. Ok . Now you’ve both got relevant votes from each other. That’s a good thing right? I just said so earlier on. Yes it is. But Google knows that it is likely this is an arranged ‘vote’ and marks it ever so ever so slightly lower than if the link is not reciprocated. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Quite simply, googlebots crawl the web. Constantly. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Then, when a search is initiated, the search engine only has to look at the ‘relatively few’ sites that meet the search criteria. You can submit your site more than once. Consensus says only submit once a month otherwise Google may view it as spam and not only ignore the request but mark your site down a notch.
